National Spotlight: Doral Academy Preparatory (FL) 21' ATH Timothy Burns Jr. (5-9, 150)

By Jerry Williamson

The Class of 2021 in South Florida is loaded  with outstanding playmakers. Doral Academy Preparatory eighth-grade ATHLETE Timothy Burns Jr, who started junior varsity the past season and competed in the 7A classification dominated against (older and physically developed) 9th and 10th graders.

Burns Jr, an All-American selection, was crowned as the No. 1 defensive back in the nation and No. 8 overall athlete according to Generation Nexxt. The former two-time Pop Warner Div. 1 National Champion for the Gwen Cherry Bulls, hasn't allowed a touchdown on his side of the field (without safety assistance) dating back since the sixth-grade, Nov. 24, 2014 to be exact.

After capturing the National Championship as an seventh-grader, Burns Jr., went from fall (youth athlete) to spring (high school starter) making his high school debut vs. Somerset Academy, spring football game. Burns Jr., didn't allow a single reception and recorded two solo tackles.

Did you know? Burns Jr., fresh off of playing varsity as a seventh-grader, dived right into college football camps still in the seventh-grade. Burns travelled to Gainesville, FL and took part in UF' Friday Night Lights Camp. He clocked a 4.8/40-yard dash and competed vs. Underclassmen. He did so well, UF coaches moved him with notable prospects. In addition,  he helped the Firebirds 7v7 football team advance to Univ. of Central Florida 7v7 Tournament semi-finals, starting at cornerback and catching seven interceptions and scoring four touchdowns at slot receiver on offense.

This past fall, he caught two interceptions and was targeted less than five times the entire season. On offensive side of the ball, he hauled in touchdown passes ranging from 20, 22 and 57 yards. The future phenom has been awarded the overall MVP or top cornerback at several notable events throughout the past three seasons.

Burns Jr, who has made it known he's a UM fan, has visited Coral Gables twice this off-season as an invite and met secondary coach Mike Rumph. This off-season, Burns Jr., didn't allow a single catch competing in Miami Dolphins' Miami-Dade vs. Broward All-Stars Youth Football Game. He also pulled in a 37-yard go route at wide receiver. Burns Jr., earned the War Zone Tournament offensive MVP and helped his 15U 7v7 All-Stars Team named Nghtmar captured the IMG Southeastern Regional Championship. Burns has scored over 30 receiving touchdowns this off-season and has been rarely tested on the defense.

If the last name rings a bell UM fans, yes he's the cousin to former UM and now, Pittsburgh Steelers cornerback Artie Burns. I'll not be shock, if he's named a Maxpreps freshman All-American and earn all-county honors. Pictured next UM commit & four-star recruit Trajan Bandy (Christopher Columbus) shows he's certainly a prospect that will catch college football coaches attention this upcoming fall.
