If anyone wanted to know what makes South Florida athletes so special to College recruiter’s this would be the weekend to see why. Football is competitive from Peewee football to Midgets or 14u so kids are use to playing at a high level & on the big stage. The atmosphere and crowds will be electric and trash talk will be at a all time high. Some kids performance’s in these rivalry’ games will be talked about and mentioned from years to come. Sit back buckle your seat belt as I take you around South Florida breaking down the top match up’s this Rivalry weekend.
Match Up : Liberty City Warriors Vs Gwen Cherry Bulls
Age Group/Weight: Junior Varsity ( 155 )
League: Greater Miami Pop Warner
Location: 7090 NW 22nd Ave Miami, FL 33147
Game time: Saturday 4:00
X-factors: Gwen Cherry-(RB) Deandre Francis, (WR) Roscoe . Liberty City Warriors- (RB) Yulkeith Brown , (WR) Hakeem Stirrup
This Matchup between the Bulls & Warriors brings the whole Inner City out. Two parks that is only separated by 5 miles kids attend the same school as well as former players are now Coaches. Liberty City comes into this game 2-1 losing a nail biter to the Richmond Giants 7-6. The Warriors were preseason favorites with additions from Gwen Cherry Bulls National Championship team. One thing this team has is no shortage of talent they’re dumb loaded. This matchup is very personal between the staffs because the Warriors inherited some of Gwen Cherry’s best players. For the Warriors to win this match up and force a 3 way tie a top of the division they can’t start out slow. 1# Hakeem Stirrup came up huge last week he will have to match those stats for the Warriors to have a chance. Rance Connor & Yulkeith Brown will also have to play a huge role if the Warriors don’t want to be stuck in 3rd place.
The Gwen Cherry Bulls were left for dead with only 14 kids and few Coaches. With some of the Bulls top players opting to play for Liberty City & Middle school ball it looked bad for the Bulls. Gwen Cherry Bulls Junior Varsity National Championship staff lead by Will Mason got on their job. The Richmond Giants came in week 1 big time favorites with a stacked team and top Coaching Staff lead by Coach “Shoo”. The Bulls added 6 to 8 kids to their team the week of the game and pulled a rabbit out the hat with the 13-6 victory. Gwen Cherry Bulls are in the driver’s seat for the number 1# seed in the Junior Varsity division and would love to put the icing on the cake by beating their arch rivals the Warriors. One thing going in the Bulls favor is 2 time National Championship Rb Deandre Francis has returned and if you know anything about Youth Football this kid is a gamer. Another weapon and addition to the team is big time WR Roscoe Gibson Jr. a huge reason the Bulls defeated the Giants. Francis & Roscoe will have to come up big in this Battle of the City to hold on to that number 1# seed and home field advantage thru the playoffs.
Match Up : Miami Gardens Ravens vs Miami Gardens Chiefs
Age Group/Weight: League: 10u
Location: Betty T. Ferguson Center (Miami Gardens Chiefs) 3000 NW 199th Street Miami Gardens, FL 33056
Game time: Saturday @5:00
X-factors: Miami Gardens Ravens- ( DE/TE) Jayden Harris, ( Qb ) Cedrick Bailey Jr., Miami Gardens Chiefs- ( QB) Antonio Smith, ( WR ) Chance Robinson
The Battle of 32 ave is no doubt arguably the top Rivalry game up north in the Miami Gardens area and people travel from other communities to witness this rivalry. If you haven’t been keeping up with the Chiefs 10u your missing conceivably the best air show in the 10u age group in the nation. Quarterback Antonio Smith & WR Chance Robinson who have been unstoppable this season will need their best performances to take over 1st place in the 10u division versus the Ravens. Defensively the Chiefs DT Bonecrusher & Lb Germaine Carter will need to come up big to stop the Ravens power run game to have a shot at the victory.
One thing that goes in the Ravens favor for this game is their battle tested. The Ravens went toe to toe with Nationally top ranked Atlanta Ducks and Coach Rod Mack promised a victory if they met again. With the Ravens being a power run team C.J Bailey will have to make throws when the box is loaded up to stop the run. Reevelinho Leocal will have to use that sprinter speed to break off some big runs for the Ravens to have an advantage. Keys the victory for the Ravens defense is Jayden Harris getting to the Chiefs Qb Smith who hasn’t been sacked all year. Ryan Mack at safety will be instrumental in slowing down Receiver Chance Robinson who seems to be untameable. Who will win the the crown of King of 32 avenue?
